Battle Group Avalon is the third Castle Federation novel. Get it on Amazon here.
TURNING THE TIDE
The Terran Commonwealth has proved a nigh-unstoppable juggernaut in its war against the smaller Castle Federation and her allies, but an almost accidental victory by Captain Kyle Roberts of the carrier Avalon has opened a chink in its armor.
Desperate to change the course of a war they are rapidly losing; the Federation assembles a new forward fleet with orders to retake the systems that have fallen to the enemy.
Outnumbered but on the offensive at last, Kyle Roberts must take a hastily assembled battle group back to the worlds the Alliance failed to defend. There he will live or die by the skills of his soldiers and the honor of his enemies.

When you have a discounted book on Amazon, which is better for you, a reader who purchases the book at the discounted price, or one who uses Kindle Unlimited and reads every page.
Glynn Stewart says
When the book is discounted like this, I get significantly more money from a KU read-through.
I always prefer, however, for people to read the book in the way that works best for them. At this stage in the release, I’m mostly concerned about visibility, so I win either way 🙂
Tiuri says
Just bought it. Look forward to reading it.
Tiuri says
Damn, why did you have to kill one of my favourite characters 🙁
Glynn Stewart says
To paraphrase David Weber (I don’t remember the exact quote): military fiction in which only the bad guys die isn’t fiction. It’s military pornography.
Vernon D Shepherd says
I expect side-kicks to get killed sometimes but please don’t go “Blake’s Seven” on me and kill the main characters.
Glynn Stewart says
and I hated writing that scene, if it makes you feel better.
Tiuri says
Strangely enough, that does make me feel better. I understand the quote and that at some point, even the good guys may and will die, but I don’t have to like it. As long as you don’t turn into George R Martin, I’ll be fine. Keep up the good work. I’m now eagerly awaiting the new Starship Mage volume (and possibly your mystery project)
James Caplan says
I haven’t yet understood why the loss of battle field commanders and pilots wasn’t a greater burden on the Federation than the attrition in ships.
Glynn Stewart says
The part that is important to realize, and I dwelt a bit more on this in Battle Group as a few people have asked questions that also draw back to the same point, is just HOW expensive and difficult it is to build a starship is in this setting.
It is a significant amount of effort for a system to construct and maintain a single Alcubierre-capable warship. Replacing one is a nightmare. Commencing a mass build program to construct them by the dozen? That program has a cost most conveniently measured in multiples of star system GDPs.
While the loss of experienced officers is definitely a drain on the Castle Federation, its a drain they will tend to view through the lens of lost warships as those end up being the primary strategic concern.
(The Federation also has a significant reserve of trained personnel intended to go aboard the Reserve ships. As will come up later, the peacetime activation plans overestimated how quickly they could do EVERYTHING with regards to the Reserve)

Hi Glen,
I read (Audible) and enjoyed all 4 of your books (Avalon and Mars Series) and am waiting for the 3rd Mars books to be available on Audible. Can you please tell me when that will be? Will the next Avelon book be available on Audible at launch time?
Sudhir
Glynn Stewart says
Tantor has Voice of Mars listed for release on August 30, 2016: https://tantor.com/author/glynn-stewart.html
Since it takes about two months to create the audiobook after I have a final file, none of my books are likely to be available on Audible at launch.
Sudhir says
I like your books they are also becoming popular so Audiobook at launch is only a matter of time 🙂
