So, to my great surprise, I actually have two weeks away from work for Christmas. For those wondering what happened to this blog, 'work' is the only answer I can give, so this break lets me get going on a few things I've been thinking on. Firstly, the project thats up in my re-write of ONSET: To Serve and Protect. There's a few agendas going on in this re-write, one of them is adding more of a horror aspect to many parts of the story (which involves taking a degree of agency away from my ... Read more »

Deus Ex: Human Revolution
So my last couple of weeks has been devoured by video games, distracting me from many productive things I should be doing (writing, editing, accounting projects I actually get paid for once I've finished, that kind of thing). The primary culprit of this distraction is Square Enix's prequel to Deus Ex. The original game, while flawed, was an epic foray into the mix of FPS and RPG elements with a intricate cyberpunk conspiracy story that was thoroughly engaging. The original sequel, while ... Once Upon A Time
A seventeen year old boy set out to write his second novel. It was better than his first, and some people figured it could be published. It got shopped around a bit by him, and later by an agent, and eventually fell into the category of 'well, this isn't getting published.' Being in that category, an older and wiser agented but unpublished author decided that it would make a good foray into the world of self-publishing by e-book. But, being responsible, occasionally sane, and by gods not ... Read more »
Still breathing, final blurb
I am still breathing, though the summer has been happily gutting my free time and keeping me distracted as I wait for the marks from my tax course (it is exactly eight weeks from my writing the exam to my receiving the marks). But, in response to that, you're getting a double post, two thoughts and ideas for the price (free!) of one. Firstly, the last of my 'cover blurbs.' Jason Kilkenny came to Calgary because it was a supernatural backwater. The Changeling sought to avoid the ... Read more »
Blurbs Cont.
Between my tax course, ending with its exam, and the flu, I've been quiet on here recently. Hopefully will be picking that up a bit more as I get back into the swing of writing. Changeling's Duty currently sits at 5,438 words. Of course, I am working on it today, so that won't be the final total for today. It's always interesting writing sequels, and trying to decide how much of the setting explanation needs to be repeated. Today, I present you with the blurb to the other book I have an ... Read more »
Time Skips
I was going to write out the blurb for Vigilante, but I remembered as I was starting that Vigilante is currently under re-write, having been chopped into two pieces due to a mis used time skip. This set me to thinking on time skips, and when and how to use them. In it's simplest form, a time skip is the little text that pops up on the bottom of your tv screen of 'ten years later.' They're used quite a bit in writing - from one perspective, any time you end one scene and start another that ... Read more »
