Five days ago I wrote the last exam for my professional certification. While this is hugely meaningful to me, its main relevance to the Pen is that I now have the time to get back to writing. Doing so is not as easy as one would wish. It's been months since I've written regularly, so I've been looking at various motivation methods and drivers. NaNoWriMo is a good example: all around the world, people start with the goal of a 50,000 word month and go. My last completed novel started as a ... Read more »

Christmas Projects
So, to my great surprise, I actually have two weeks away from work for Christmas. For those wondering what happened to this blog, 'work' is the only answer I can give, so this break lets me get going on a few things I've been thinking on. Firstly, the project thats up in my re-write of ONSET: To Serve and Protect. There's a few agendas going on in this re-write, one of them is adding more of a horror aspect to many parts of the story (which involves taking a degree of agency away from my ... Read more »
Milestones
Today, Changeling's Fealty hit 90,000 words. There have been some brutal scenes in the last 10,000 words - a lot of things have come out from under the shadows. Some cold blooded acts were taken by good guys. Some pretty explicitly evil things were done by bad guys. 90,000 words is a pretty important milestone in my mind though. This is the end game, the final pages of the book, the point at which I can definitely say that this book will get finished. Also the point where I start ... Read more »
Made It!
With barely hours to go to midnight, dinner still uncooked, and a ten hour work day behind me, I scraped out 1200 ish words today to bring Changeling's Fealty to 85,000 words - making my 10,000 word goal for the month. February's goal is to finish this book - starting with a 1000 words a day. 30,000 words or a finished novel! And now I'm going to go cook dinner for myself. Namaste Glynn ... Read more »
Baby Steps…
This weekend was a mad rush on my part to try and catch up to my now heavily reduced goal. I started the weekend barely past five thousand words, and realized that without a significant effort, I wasn't even going to make my reduced 10,000 word goal! Well, with racking in 2,346 words today, I am 9,017/10,000 for the month. Hopefully, I will make the last nine hundred odd words tomorrow night, but for now, I have work in the morning and a cat on my lap. Time to put the writing cap ... Read more »
January Goals
So January has so far been a complete failure on trying to meet my goals. It is the 23rd, and I just passed 4,000 words this month. I'm intending to pass 80,000 words on Fealty today, which will put me at 5,000 words towards this months goal of 30,000. The reason? Life happens. The month started with the usual end of Christmas/start of New Year chaos. After that. it was mostly work. I'm an accountant in my 'day job,' and January is year end, so work has been sucking out all of my ... Read more »
