Why is there so much dust in here? It's been a busy year for personal business, and both my writing and this blog fell to the side while it was all going on. This year I completed a professional accounting designation, switched employers for the first time in almost a decade, and got married. A few minor distractions! Now that I am mostly back into the swing of writing, it's time to update this blog with where I'm at. Currently, I have one project on the go and one in the ... Read more »

Changeling’s Fealty
So, at a first draft length of 98,159 words, Changeling's Fealty is complete. At just under four months in the writing, Changeling is definitely in the running for shortest time frame I've ever written a novel in (I think one other piece was finished in something similiar, years ago). Nanowrimo gave me a huge boost writing the book. Having that extra pressure to get the first 50,000 words out helped wonders, and once I had 50,000 words, I was good to go to finish the rest of the ... Read more »
NaNoWriMo Finish Line Retrospective
As of now, Changeling's Fealty stands at 50,141 words. I've met my NaNoWriMo goal. What comes next? Well, accounting exams. But first, some retrospective. When I started NaNoWriMo, I hadn't written anything significant in about nine months. Despite having story ideas I wanted to work on, I never quite around to sitting down, firing up the word processor, and writing. My one attempt faded at literally about 400 words. I don't think it was so much the goal, but the encouragement ... Read more »
NaNoWriMo; and the scene that’s hard to write
2,098 words today, 47,082 total. Less than three thousand words to the goal for the month, though a LOT more than that to finish the story. One of the scenes I wrote this week was difficult. It was something I knew was going to happen from the moment I started the story, but as I wrote I got to know one of the characters involved better and became somewhat attached to him. Getting to know him better also made the scene harsher than originally planned, as he turned out to be a much better ... Read more »
NaNoWriMo – The Home Stretch
2078 words today, and 42,179 total. The story is arching towards its first climax and major scene changer. This is a roughly the midway point of the story, I think. From here on, our hero is a bit more focused on solving whats been laid before him - its about to get personal, and there are about to be time limits. My goal is to break 50,000 words by or on Saturday, and then mostly leave it alone until Thursday - I write a major accounting exam for my designation next Wednesday. I'm ... Read more »
NaNoWriMo – Cold Iron Ball Bearings
And no, that is not a euphenism. 2,719 words today on NaNoWrimo. 40,101/50,000 total this month. So, since the last time I posted about Fealty on here, I've gone from 'adorably awkward first date' to 'claymore mine loaded with cold iron ball bearings.' (Cold iron in this case being defined as cold hammered cast iron. I'd hate to be the poor bastard tasked with making the shrapnel for claymore mines). Someone was expecting Fae. They caught some. Including our poor battered ... Read more »
