So, at a first draft length of 98,159 words, Changeling’s Fealty is complete.
At just under four months in the writing, Changeling is definitely in the running for shortest time frame I’ve ever written a novel in (I think one other piece was finished in something similiar, years ago).
Nanowrimo gave me a huge boost writing the book. Having that extra pressure to get the first 50,000 words out helped wonders, and once I had 50,000 words, I was good to go to finish the rest of the book.
Now the process of editing begins. Initially, this is going to involve uploading the file and sending the link to a small group of suck… I mean volunteers. Once I have one or two edit sets back from them, I will re-read through the book, applying their edits and seeing if anything else comes to mind for me.
Not least, I want to come up with another 1900ish words to kick the book over 100,000 words, which shouldn’t be hard. Past experience tells me that there’s at least two or three things in the book that made perfect sense to me that a reader wouldn’t be able to follow. The first readers’ job is to find things like that. Well, that, grammar errors, continuity errors, points where more description is needed (common in my writing, I used to get told I wrote like an engineer), and pieces that are totally unnecessary and need to be cut.
Off to upload and email,
Namaste all,
Glynn Stewart

Congratulations! I’m still working on my Mano novel myself. Just broke 70,000 words and I suspect the book will last at least 100,000. Keep us updated on how the editing goes.
