And with a 6,300 word sprint day, Starship’s Mage book 2: Hand of Mars (originally Mage-King’s Hand) is now done.
There’s still a few stages for it to go through before it ends up in your hands (beta readers, editing, covers, minor things like that XD) so I’m not going to give a specific release date. The goal is to have it out, as originally promised, in September.
As discussed previously, Hand of Mars will initially be released on KDP Select, but will be taken to a wider distribution after 90 days. (So if you want it on Kobo, that’ll probably be a nice Christmas present ;))
(I intend to do a longer term comparison between Space Carrier Avalon, which will remain on KDP Select past 90 days, and Hand of Mars, which will come off of KDP Select after 90 days. Experimentation is fun!)
I’m glad to see this book done, and I’m looking forward to getting it out into the wild.

Will there be more stories about Damien?
Glynn Stewart says
Well, Hand of Mars is a Damien story, so yes 😉
If you mean after Hand of Mars, the answer is also yes. I hope to have Starship’s Mage 3 out early next year. It’s the second project on my list after Space Carrier Avalon 2.

Starship Mage was great!! Finger crossed for Hand of Mars!!
John says
Yes, after Hand of Mars. Something to look forward to then.

Love the Mage series… One plot hole that I’d love to see fixed is the shifting ages of the protagonist. He starts off a s a youths.. becomes early 20’s and then by the posted openings of the Hand of Mars chapters is just under 30 in 3 years of studying with the mage king…
Glynn Stewart says
Damien’s age is consistent, if intentionally vague. He’s twenty-five in Starship’s Mage, having just graduated from a two year Jump Mage training certificate following on from a four year Bachelor’s in Thaumaturgy.
Starship’s Mage‘s events unfold over most of a year, and by the time he reaches Mars he’s not quite twenty-six.
In Hand of Mars, he is just barely twenty-nine. He rounds his own age up in his head, because he doesn’t feel ‘old’ enough for what he’s doing.
In Starship’s Mage when he’s described as a youth, this is (if I’m remembering the scene correctly) from David’s perspective. Remember that Damien is roughly five feet tall and extremely skinny – he looks a lot younger than he actually is.

Any date for the release of Hand of Mars, am really looking forward to this book

The cover went back to the artist for final tweaks earlier this morning. Depending on how long those take, it should be up sometime this weekend.

Or today. It might be out today 😉
